One of Palo Alto’s most sought-after neighborhoods is Crescent Park – in fact it is the Crown Jewel of Palo Alto. This neighborhood is home to many amazingly beautiful mansions which define classic beauty, elegance, prestige and old wealth along the San Francisco Peninsula. Pre-World War II homes divide up three distinct sections of Crescent Park’s Magnolia-lined streets; East of Middlefield Road, Prime Crescent Park, and Crescent Park Addition. This neighborhood has many different architectural styles all of which are on display in each section of Crescent Park. Just east of downtown are bungalows which began sprouting up in the early 1900s through the 1920s. Many of these bungalows show architectural details and other craftsmen laid surprises not found in modern residential construction. Tudors, Spanish Colonials, Spanish Revivals, and Monterey Colonials can be found throughout all sections of Crescent Park. To appreciate all of the architecture one must just venture street-by-street, block-by-block.
Crescent Park Residents Have Incredible Pride of Ownership
Crescent Park is a true collection of some of the most prestigious homes on the peninsula and in Palo Alto. Each and every lot and residence adds something special to the neighborhood. Some of the finest architectural designs, landscaping, and creative construction has accumulated in this neighborhood. Because Crescent Park was constructed in the early 1900s many of the homes have been renovated throughout the years, but most maintain their original architectural style, grace, and uniqueness facing the public streets.
Large Lots Grace Crescent Park
Typical lots in Crescent Park are usually larger than other Palo Alto neighborhoods. Bigger lots translate into bigger homes, including some of the most impressive mansions in Palo Alto and on the San Francisco Peninsula. During renovations many Crescent Park owners keep the look and feel of the original architectural designs facing the public street so as to maintain the original look and feel of the origins of the neighborhood. Walking or driving along streets of Crescent Park you will see canopies of Magnolia-lined streets, large-sprawling mansions, detailed-manicured yards, and the feeling of wealth and opulence. Crescent Park has also become newsworthy as it is also home to several celebrities including Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg (who owned one home and then bought the four surrounding it), and former NFL Quarterback Steve Young (who built a spectacular mansion).
Crescent Park Has Charming and Unique Geography
Located in the North section of town between Newell, Channing, San Francisquito Creek, Middlefield Road, Hamilton, and Lincoln Avenue, Crescent Park has the unique location of being alongside San Francisquito Creek and all of its creek-lined oak trees. Crescent Park residents also enjoy being close to Silicon Valley access via California Highway 101.
Basements are rare in Crescent Park because this section of Palo Alto is in a flood zone. Because sections of Crescent Park border San Francisquito Creek it has flooded in heavy rainstorms in the past. The potential for flooding has triggered lenders to require flood insurance for areas of Crescent Park, but this fact has not hindered property values – in fact Crescent Park remains one of the strongest price per square foot neighborhood in Palo Alto and the United States.
Crescent Park Feeds Into Top Palo Alto Schools
As with other Palo Alto residents Crescent Park children are able to attend desirable Palo Alto public schools within the Palo Alto Unified School District. Many families come from all other areas of the Bay Area to attend Palo Alto public schools. Palo Alto schools are incredibly diverse, have both successful athletic and extra-curricular programs, and score incredibly high when compared with other schools in the United States. [As a precaution school attendance boundaries are subject to change and individual schools are subject to student body availability. Please verify enrollment status and individual availability with the Palo Alto Unified School District].
